Henrique has deep expertise in distributed systems, databases, and blockchain technology. With a PhD in computer science, he combines his academic background with extensive industry experience. He was one of the first engineers at Dune Analytics, where he built the data platform team, led the development of the SQL query engine that powers Dune’s blockchain analytics platform, and was instrumental in defining the company's engineering culture. At Protocol Labs, he designed the first version of F3, a consensus mechanism for the fast finalization of blocks in Filecoin, and contributed to Interplanetary Consensus, a technology for scaling blockchains using hierarchical subnets. At JPMorgan, he led research on Quorum - an Ethereum-based blockchain for private networks - and designed the IBFT/QBFT consensus algorithm, which was standardized by the EEA and adopted by systems including Hyperledger Besu, Polygon Edge, SSV, and Obol. Prior, he worked at Google for five years, where he was the tech lead and manager of the 16-strong team responsible for the large-scale distributed storage infrastructure of the Google Docs suite, serving hundreds of millions of users. He was also a postdoctoral researcher at Microsoft Research, working on a low-latency database system for geo-replicated storage. Before entering the industry, Henrique was an assistant professor at the University of Lisbon.
